Jay Barnett is a former professional athlete who has written 3 books on the development of teens. As a best selling author he has seen the word leadership defined numerous ways over the years. Is it charisma and positive thinking? Fitted suits and bow ties? Decisiveness? Is it all about the situation? Is it meant only for the chosen few who rise to the top? Or is there a different story?

With over 10 years of experience mentoring, public speaking, and most important, real-life in the trenches business experience, his view is radically different. He has generated countless success stories and has transformed hundreds of lives. Jay shares with his mentees that leadership is a moment-to-moment choice and not about title and position. Leadership is for everyone. It’s a choice. It’s how we should live our life.

As a leader in the community, Jay serves as the senior consultant and Master Teen Mentor with his Sugar Land, Texas-based organizations.

His various organizations serve “at risk” teens ages 13-18, which includes children and teens transitioning through foster care and group homes. He also offers Back To School Back Pack Campaigns as well as Football and Basketball Camps. He continues to work with the best and brightest in the leadership development field. As a result of working with Jay, teens develop winning mindsets, self-esteem, self worth-worth, and value for their bodies.

Brice McBeth is the founder of Reap Marketing, the only digital marketing agency that hired itself to build an e-commerce business and optimize its own conversions by over 950% on its way to creating a multi-million dollar store that disrupted the salon equipment industry.

It all started back in the 1900's when he started his career with IBM as one of the founding members of a group that created the first web analytics software delivered as a service, Coremetrics. After leaving to join ranks on the client side, Brice became quickly frustrated with the lack of agencies (albeit very talented) that were able to turn web traffic, buzz, branding, exposure, and engagement into sales. Seeing the need for an agency focused on website conversions, he launched Reap and eventually Standish Salon Goods.

Brice wrote about the journey in his book, Salon Chairs Don’t Sell Themselves. He speaks and provides education on the topic of Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO) to help companies get better results from their current marketing efforts.

In their bestselling business parable, The Go-Giver and then their follow-up, The Go-Giver Leader, Bob Burg and John David Mann challenged the conventional wisdom about success. Now they’re back with a new and equally compelling story about the power of genuine influence, in business and beyond.

The Go-Giver Influencer: A Little Story about a Most Persuasive Idea tackles the paradox of achieving what you want by focusing on the other person’s interests. No, not in a way that is self-sacrificial but rather in such a way that all parties benefit greatly. This results in both immediate and long-term success.

Bob Burg speaks all over the world on topics related to The Go-Giver, as well as what he calls, Ultimate Influence™. While his total book sales number well over a million copies, his and Mann’s original book has itself sold over 700,000 copies and has spurred an international movement.

Their new book, however, The Go-Giver Influencer, might just be their most important book of all.

On this episode, we discuss the 5 Secrets of Genuine Influence.

1. Master Your Emotions

2. Step into the Other Person’s Shoes.

3. Set the Frame.

4. Communicate with Tact and Empathy.

5. Let Go of Having to be Right.

With a unique style and sound, which echoes the influences of his past, Brad Leali is one of the most notable saxophonists of current times. A native of Denver, Colorado, Brad was raised in the Baptist Church. In addition to gospel music, he spent countless hours listening to the music his parents played (Coltrane, Cannonball, Bird, James Brown, Marvin Gaye, and Nancy Wilson). It’s no wonder that at a very young age, he was able to combine gospel, jazz, and R&B into his playing.

As a child, Brad recalls spending time looking through old year book photos of his father in the high school jazz band, looking sharp and clean. He was so enamored by these images that he found himself opening the case, time and time again, to see the beautiful horn from the photos. He finally told his father that he just had to play. That very day, his father had the horn repaired and signed Brad up for the Denver Junior Police Concert Band. That began his long love affair with the saxophone.

While studying the saxophone, Brad spent his youthful years listening to live jazz at many Denver music venues. One in particular was named “El Chapultapec,” owned by Jerry Krantz. Krantz loved jazz and would allow young musicians, such as Brad, to listen, learn, and sit in. It was here that Brad first heard many of his early mentors and local legends (Billy Tolles, Billy Wallace, Homer Brown, Nat Yarborough, etc.) He also got to hear and study with other jazz greats, such as trumpeter Clark Terry and saxophonists Eddie “Cleanhead” Vincent.

Leali received a Bachelor of Arts degree in music education from North Texas University in 1989, where he played with the world-renowned One O’clock Lab Band. Upon graduating, the Harry Connick, Jr. Orchestra immediately recruited him. In his tenure with the orchestra (1989-1994), Brad was the lead alto saxophonist and the musical director. During this time, they toured the world and the orchestra recorded two highly acclaimed CDs (e.g., Christmas CD & Redlight, Blue light)

By invitation of Frank Foster, Brad then joined the Count Basie Orchestra in 1995. (later under Grover Mitchell 2003). During his years with the group, the Basie band was a two-time Grammy award- winning orchestra. It was one of the greatest musical learning experiences he’d ever had. Working with older musicians only deepened his appreciation of the importance of this music. Spending time one-on-one with the likes of Joe Williams was unforgettable in these formative years.

During his time as one of the top jazz musicians in New York City, Leali was a staple in legendary jazz venues like the Village Vanguard, Blue Note, Jazz Standard, Iridium, and Birdland. He has also performed in Lincoln Center in the orchestras of jazz legends Nancy Wilson and Benny Golson.

Brad’s desire to pay it forward and help keep jazz alive led to him earning a Master’s degree from Rutgers University in 2005. He was quickly appointed as Director of Jazz Studies at Texas Tech University. While there, several scholarships were established in his name, including the “Brad Leali Endowed Jazz Scholarship”. In 2008, Brad joined the esteemed University of North Texas (UNT) faculty as Professor of Jazz Saxophone, where he directs small group ensembles, jazz performance fundamentals, and jazz saxophone. As the recipient of the UNT “Creative Impact Award” in 2014, Brad was recognized as a distinguished faculty member for his outstanding contributions as an educator who perpetuates the value of creative development and performance.

Brad Leali has also had a prolific recording career. His first solo recording was Priority Soul! in 1998 on the New Jazz Renaisssance Recordings label. In 1999, the Count Basie Orchestra won a Grammy award for Count Plays Duke with Leali receiving his own nomination for his solo work on the classic Billy Strayhorn composition, “The Star-Crossed Lovers.” His discography also includes Live in Europe (Brad Leali Quartet, 2004); Brooklyn Soul Organization (also produced by Leali, 2004); the critically acclaimed Maria Juanez (2006), which features his own compositions and eighteen-piece jazz orchestra; and DA’s Time (Brad Leali-Claus Raible Quartet, 2008) on the TCB label. Leali’s numerous television appearances include local news programs, the Today show, Jay Leno, Arsenio Hall, BET, and the Harry Connick, Jr., Christmas Special. He performed annually for many years as part of the Kennedy Center Honors program. Leali also performed at President Obama’s inaugural celebration “We Are One.”

While Brad continues teaching at UNT, he frequently performs, tours, and records. He also enjoys working as a guest artist, clinician, and adjudicator at other educational institutions. Brad has had a long-time endorsement with Keilwerth Saxophones and D’Addario Reeds. He currently tours with Lyle Lovett & His Large Band (2013-present).

Ali Boone is a 9-to-5 dropout who left a high-paying career as an Aerospace Engineer to start her own business. She is the founder of Hipster Investments, a real estate investment company that truly flips real estate investing on its head. Not only does Hipster offer unique investment opportunities that open the door for anyone to invest in real estate, but Ali has structured Hipster in such a way that allows her full freedom to create the life of her dreams. (She reluctantly admits sleeping- in is a major part of her current dream life…)

Ali has Master’s degrees in both Aerospace Engineering and Spiritual Psychology. She has written over 170 articles for BiggerPockets.com—the world’s leading real estate investing website. She has been featured in Fox Business and The Motley Fool, has over 300k views on her Calculating Rental Property Numbers video on YouTube, has sold over 200 copies of her Turnkey Rental Properties 101 eBook, and was awarded Top 100 Real Estate Investing Blogs & Websites on the Web. If you ask Ali what her biggest accomplishment is though, she’ll tell you it’s that she successfully created a completely location-independent business that allows her to live wherever she wants, travel whenever she wants, work whenever she wants (or doesn’t want), and most importantly—she is her own boss. She is a firm believer in lifestyle design and the freedom and happiness that comes with it—and she’s certainly become an expert at living it!

Ali’s strengths are in organic business building, passive income, outsourcing, and lifestyle design. She also does business consulting where she specializes in looking at the puzzle pieces of struggling businesses and, using her engineering background and experience as a successful entrepreneur, helps fit those puzzle pieces back together in a way that best supports the client and their business.

When Ali isn’t helping people buy real estate or coaching other entrepreneurs, she is usually flying airplanes around Santa Monica (and teaching other people to fly as well), hanging out in the SoCal outdoors whether it be the beach or the ski slopes, hanging out with her little Pekingese dog, Harley, or volunteering in California prisons where she works directly with the inmates teaching them principles of spiritual psychology and methods of finding internal freedom.

Amidst her busy schedule, her ultimate goal is to one day challenge Tim Ferriss to a lifestyle design duel.

Not many people can claim to have literally created not only an entire software category but as a result also a global multi-billion dollar industry. Mike is only one of two guys that did, the other being his past business partner.

Born and raised in Chicago, Mike started his career with IBM in the pre-PC Mainframe era and was classically trained as a Marketing Rep (a fancy way of saying “Sales”) in their 6-month deep-dive intensive Sales Training School of which he graduated 6 out of 66 in his national class. He went on to have a very successful career with IBM who instilled in him many of the principles that he applied later as a software entrepreneur.

Mike has experienced both success and failure as an entrepreneur and lives by the credo Dare Greatly! - Fail to Succeed! Audiences find Mike exceptionally, and vulnerably, transparent and authentic that captures their hearts because of his relate-ability and enthuses the human spirit in his audiences to rise above the norm in realizing their greatest potential.

Mike’s career has truly been uniquely, irrefutably, and intensely focused on effecting meaningful relationships. As a software entrepreneur he developed world-class tools to enable people to realize and achieve more effective, meaningful, real, and connected relationships in both their business as well as their personal landscape of networks.

Mike is best known as the Co-Founder and Co-Inventor of ACT!, the product that literally created the entire Relationship Management software category and global industry and that has been purchased by over 10 million people in the world. Still on the market today after 31 years ACT! has always been acknowledged as the catalyst that created the CRM multi-billion industry.

Mike has spoken to over 250,000 people worldwide as the Keynote Speaker for companies such as Toshiba, Compaq, UT-Dallas, University of Illinois, IDG Publications, the California Professional Women Conference, Singapore Business Expositions, and numerous sales conferences among others as well as speaking on stage with other technology industry titans such as Masayoshi Son, the Founder & CEO of Softbank. Known as The Connection Expert Mike helps people and businesses build substantive and sustainable relationships that enables greater achievement and stronger networks from which all livelihoods depend. Mike can be reached at Mike@MikeMuhney.com.

In January 2015 Mike was recognized in a FORBES article as one of the “25 Professional Networking Experts to Watch in 2015” along with such notables as Tim Ferriss and Keith Ferrazzi.
